1. Check for application-specific validation
An antibody validated for Western blot does not automatically work in immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), or flow cytometry. Make sure the desired application is explicitly listed in the manufacturer’s data.
2. Consider species compatibility
Verify that the antibody has been tested on your target species. Results from mouse samples cannot always be directly extrapolated to human or other samples.
3. Use control samples
Positive and negative controls help identify nonspecific signals or background staining early on and ensure reliable interpretation of your results.
4. Use independent data
Publications, citation counts, and user-generated data often provide valuable insights into an antibody’s actual performance in everyday laboratory use.
With our Antibody Finder, you can filter antibodies specifically by target protein, application, species, and other criteria. This reduces the time spent on research and increases the likelihood of selecting the optimal antibody for your experiment right from the start.
