STEM-CELLBANKER™ supports therapy development for Parkinson’s Disease

A recent Nature publication highlights the pivotal role of STEM-CELLBANKER™ in preserving dopaminergic neuron progenitors derived from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) for a Phase 1 Parkinson’s disease clinical trial. This chemically defined, animal-free cryopreservation medium, manufactured under GMP conditions, ensures high post-thaw viability and maintains cell pluripotency, normal karyotype, and proliferation ability.

STEM-CELLBANKER™ is optimized for the storage of hESCs and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), as well as other fragile cell types. It is available in various formulations, including DMSO-free versions, to cater to specific research and clinical needs. The medium is suitable for long-term storage at temperatures as low as -80°C or -196°C, requiring no specialized equipment like programmable freezers or liquid nitrogen.

Key Features

  • High Cell Viability: Maintains over 90% viability post-thaw.

  • Long-Term Storage: Proven stability for over 10 years at -80°C or -196°C.

  • GMP Compliance: Manufactured in compliance with JPN, EU, US, and PIC/S GMP guidelines.

  • FDA Master File Registered: Registered with the FDA CBER.

  • Versatile Applications: Suitable for cell, organoid, and tissue cryopreservation.

Real-World Application

The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center utilized STEM-CELLBANKER™ to store, thaw, and recover stem cell-derived midbrain dopamine progenitors for clinical use in Parkinson’s disease patients. This underscores the medium's critical role in advancing regenerative therapies.
